The Tactical Inhibit Kill Feature

Radios must first be CPS-programmed with the ability to "encode" and / or "decode" the Tactical Inhibit Kill command prior to going out in-the-field (see Tactical Inhibit Kill Operation).

The Kill menu-selection allows a radio-user to transmit the "Kill" command, causing the receiving radio(s) to be completely disabled.

• Prior to the Kill command being transmitted, the radio-user is prompted for the Tactical Inhibit Encode Password; this ensures that unauthorized transmission of this command is not possible.

• This password may be redefined by the radio-user using the Password menu-selection, provided the current password is known.

Using the "Direct Kill" method, the radio-user may self-inflict the Kill command to radio. A radio-user Direct Kill is accomplished by pressing the radio’s "Top (Orange) Button" and "Side Top (Select) Button" simultaneously. The radio is then completely disabled.

For "Direct Kill" to function in-the-field, the radio must first be CPS-programmed with the ability to "decode" the Tactical Inhibit Kill command (see Tactical Inhibit Kill Operation).

For radio codeplugs that have this Tactical Inhibit Kill feature, do not program Channel Up, Channel Down, Zone Up, Zone Down, Zone Bank Up or Zone Bank Down on the "Side Top (Select) Button", as this will prevent the radio-user from activating "Direct Kill".

Once Killed, the receiving radio is completely disabled and no longer unmutes to received voice calls and no longer responds to any radio-user activity. The radio also erases all of its encryption keys (including ADP keys). Even while in Emergency Mode the radio responds to the Kill command.

To UnKill: The radio can only be restored to full functionality with the use of an Advanced Conventional Key (ACK). ACKs are accessible to the CPS through your computer’s USB port with the use of Key Devices inserted into a USB Port Key Device Reader.

• With the ACK attached to the computer, select to read the radio, once the radio is read, then write the radio; the radio is then unKIlled.

• In order to unKill a radio, the ACK loaded in the CPS must be an exact match for the ACK originally CPS-programmed in the radio from the Conventional Customer ID field.
